An orofacial myofunctional disorder occurs when an abnormal lip, jaw, or tongue position is present during rest, swallowing, or speech. Problems that result from OMDs may include pain in the face and neck, poor sleep due to breathing difficulties, or ongoing issues after dental surgery or orthodontic work.
The objective of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) is to promote optimal oral rest posture, characterized by the tongue resting on the roof of the mouth, teeth slightly parted, and lips sealed, accompanied by nasal breathing. This posture is recommended for all situations except during eating, drinking, or speaking.

Thumb sucking is can be a common habit among young children, but it can cause many negative implications on children’s health. Extended thumb sucking usage can impact a child’s airway, dentition, feeding skills, and sleep.
We offer a thumb sucking elimination program starting at age 4! It's important to note that every child is different, and what works for one child may not work for another. However, a fun and positive remediation program can be a helpful tool for children in breaking the habit of thumb sucking.
Breaking a habit takes time and patience, so it's important to be supportive and understanding throughout the process. It's also important to address any underlying issues that may be causing the thumb sucking, such as an orofacial myofunctional disorder. With the right tools and encouragement, your child can successfully overcome their thumb sucking habit and enjoy improved oral health and overall wellbeing.

TMJ, or temporomandibular joint disorder, is a condition that causes pain in the jaw and face. TMJ often occurs as a result of chronic teeth grinding and jaw clenching. These habits are also known as myofunctional disorders. These disorders can strain the muscles, ligaments, and nerves in the jaw.

Tongue Ties
Tongue ties, or ankyloglossia, occur when the tissue under the tongue restricts movement. This condition can affect speech, swallowing, and overall oral health.
Tethered oral tissues (TOTS) initiate a cascade effect throughout our body, prompting adaptation and compensation mechanisms to maintain equilibrium. Our body's remarkable adaptability ensures its survival by adjusting to these restrictions.
The tongue, a muscular marvel, comprises eight sets of muscles, encompassing both extrinsic and intrinsic components. Its multifaceted role in daily functions underscores its profound impact on our overall well-being.
Fortunately, myofunctional therapy offers tailored exercises and techniques to address tongue ties, promoting proper tongue mobility and function.
